DESIGN PRINCIPLES. GRID


We had a design principles lesson last week, where Lorenzo talked about Grid, Leaning, Line fead, Body Size, x-hight impact in visual size, Ligatures, Kerning, Tracing and Halation, Layout.

Grid - A framework of spaced bars that are parallel to or cross each other; a grating.
Leaning - tendency or partiality of a particular kind
Line Feed - The action of advancing paper in a printing machine by the space of one lineThe analogous movement of text on a VDT screen.
X- Height - In typography, the x-height or corpus size refers to the distance between the baseline and the mean line in a typeface.
Ligatures - A thing used for tying or binding something tightly.
Kerning - Adjust the spacing between (letters or characters) in a piece of text to be printed.
Layout - The way in which the parts of something are arranged or laid out. The way in which text or pictures are set out on a page.
Halation - The spreading of light beyond its boundaries to form a fog around a bright image in a photograph or on a television screen.
