  • Bite Vilimaite ‘home’
  • how we see our daily environment and do we notice the effect?
  • does our environment affect who we are or do we build it up to represent who we are?
2. the ‘experience of space’

Intro:

The idea of ‘space’ has been a fundamental problem of contemporary philosophy for few decades now. It has been analyzed by many  philosopher such as Heidegger, Bollnow, Durckheim and many others. It can be view in many medias, subjects and philosophies but the aim of this essay is to analyze the speciality in human life in comparison with Durckheim’s ‘ raised theory of ‘experienced space’. The home environment is the subject of interest in the essay and how it is formed by the individual and re-formed by another. In order to understand how person reacts to space and can be effected or manipulated in believing the effect of the space starts from understanding ‘space’ itself. Through looking into the philosophy behind everyday life experiences and the influences in the basic environment (or so called space) leads to understanding how installation or special art can create impact and intervention to the human mind. Can the ‘lived space’ define the person or does the person define the space? How can we manipulate our mind through using space in art installations and what effects it has on the individual?

First chapter. Home.

The idea of home as a space defining the mental and emotional picture of a persons life and sometimes even their personality first came through a form of a novel written by a lithuanian writer Vilimaite ‘home’. She has been well-known for her analyzes of human relationships and mental state through space and surroundings. The novel starts with a detailed description of a house and before the family is actually introduced through the detailed description the reader has already pictured the problems and mentality, social-status in society and relationship within the family.
